HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)

HMRC is the Government department responsible for collecting the bulk of tax revenue, as well as paying Tax Credits and Child Benefits, and strengthening the UK's frontiers. They also protect society from illegal imports of drugs, alcohol and tobacco smuggling and tax fraud. RCPO is responsible for prosecuting all HMRC's criminal cases. Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA)

SOCA is a new law enforcement agency created to reduce the harm caused to people and communities in the UK by serious organised crime. RCPO will be prosecuting its major drugs and related money-laundering cases. The link below will open in a new window.

Attorney General’s Office

The Attorney General’s Office's objective is to provide high-grade legal advice and support to the Attorney General and the Solicitor General (the Law Officers). The Attorney General, assisted by the Solicitor General, is the chief legal adviser to the Government and is answerable for RCPO in Parliament.

Serious Fraud Office (SFO)

The Serious Fraud Office is an independent government Department that investigates and prosecutes serious and complex fraud. It is part of the UK's Criminal Justice System and is superintended by the Attorney General.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)

CPS is responsible for prosecuting people in England and Wales who have been charged with a criminal offence. It is headed by the Director of Public Prosecutions who is accountable to the Attorney General.

Ministry of Justice

Ministry of Justice is responsible for upholding justice, rights and democracy. These responsibilities include running the courts, improving the justice system, human rights and information rights law, law and policy on running elections and modernising the constitution.

CJS Online

This is the website of the Office for Criminal Justice Reform (OCJR), the cross-departmental team that supports all criminal justice agencies in working together to provide an improved service to the public. As a cross-departmental organisation, OCJR reports to Ministers in the Home Office, Department for Constitutional Affairs and the Office of the Attorney General.

The Law Commission was set up in 1965. It is responsible for reviewing the law of England and Wales and recommending reform when needed.
